INSTALLING THE IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE IN YOUR VEHICLE

The ignition interlock device integrates into your vehicle’s ignition systems wiring harness. Installation of the device should not have any effect on your vehicle’s warranty. Installation, if done correctly, will not cause aesthetic or mechanical damage to the vehicle. All Ignition Interlock installation technicians in the state of Arizona are required to be certified by the ignition Interlock provider. QuickStart Ignition Interlock does install on hybrid and push button start vehicles. Effective July 1st 2018 The Arizona Department of Transportation requires all ignition interlock devices to be equipped with cameras and GPS.

AS OF JULY 2018 ALL IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICES MUST HAVE A CAMERA AND GPS

All new installations as of July 2018 will entail the installation of a camera and GPS. The camera will only take a picture when a breath sample is provided and when a running test is requested. These photos help to determine the driver of the vehicle if their is a non-compliance or violation of the program. Adjusting of the camera position can only be done by an ADOT approved ignition interlock service provider. Moving the camera or obstructing its view is a violation of the ignition interlock program.

HOW LONG IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS AND DO I NEED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT

QuickStart Interlock does require an appointment. This is to insure an efficient and timely experience. Typically we can get you in within a day or two and sometimes can do same day appointments. Installation of an ignition interlock typically takes between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the make and model of the vehicle. Push button start or keyless ignition vehicles, will typically take 60-90 minutes. During the installation process our representative will train you on the use of the device, as well as, the “do’s and don’ts” of the Arizona Ignition Interlock program. You must be present at time of installation.

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR INSTALLATION APPOINTMENT

You will need to bring a picture ID (Drivers License, Military ID, State Issued ID Card or Passport ), and Vehicle registration (other valid proof of ownership will be accepted). If the vehicle is not registered in your name, simply have the registered owner fill out an authorization form and bring it with you to your installation appointment. Click the link here to fill out your form.

DO I HAVE TO NOTIFY THE MVD AFTER INSTALLATION

We will submit your installation record electronically to the AZ MVD with our nightly file. As long as you have completed all other requirements assigned to you by the AZ MVD, your time on the program will automatically start the day after installation.

It is strongly recommended by ADOT that you log into your AZ MVD Now account the day after installation to ensure all other requirements have been met and logged. Your account will notify you of any outstanding requirements. If you still have any questions, you can call AZ MVD at 602-255-0072 (24) hours after installation.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY MONITORING APPOINTMENTS

Monitoring appointments typically take between 5 and 15 minutes and are performed at the ignition interlock provider’s place of business. You are required by Arizona state law to have the vehicle present at the time of monitoring. At the time of monitoring, we will inspect the device, download the data logs from the device, and calibrate the device to ensure accuracy. The information obtained from the monitoring appointments is electronically sent to the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division. Payment is taken at the time of your monitoring appointment.

HOW OFTEN DO I HAVE TO GET MY DEVICE MONITORED

The Arizona Motor Vehicle Division states that you must have the device monitored once every 77-90 days. . Failure to show up for a monitoring appointment could result in an interlock “Lock Out” which will prevent you from starting your vehicle which could lead to program termination and driver license suspension. If the participant goes longer than 90 days the MVD will suspend their license and their program will start over.

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION REQUIRES INTERLOCK PROVIDERS TO COLLECT A $20 FEE AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION.

Per ARS 28-1462 H and rule R17-5-614 Subsection D The Arizona Department of Transportation requires Ignition Interlock Service Providers to collect a $20 fee for each ignition interlock installed. The $20 fee, in its entirety, is remitted to ADOT. The assessed fee is only collected when the device is installed, reinstalled or transferred to another vehicle.
